Polyuria
Pronounced pol-ee-YOO-ree-uh
Also known as Frequent urination, Passing urine often
Passing unusually large amounts of urine, often the first symptom of diabetes. Getting up repeatedly at night is the classic pattern.
When blood rises above roughly 180 mg/dL, the kidneys can no longer reabsorb it all and it spills into the urine, dragging water out with it.
That water loss causes the thirst — — that goes with it. The two together, especially with weight loss, should always prompt a blood sugar test.
